A Brief History of Building FUTURES

Building FUTURES Employment Society has served the Bedford, Sackville and Fall River community for over 40 years. Founded by parents in 1973, the goal of the association was to improve the quality of life of those living with intellectual disabilities, leaving the school system.

As programs evolved, the organization has occupied several locations throughout the community. In 1982, the Society moved to its current site of 61 Glendale Avenue in Lower Sackville.

It was in 1991 that Building FUTURES Employment Society was incorporated, as Anchor Industries Society. In 2012, we adopted our new and current name.

In 2015-2016 we completed a comprehensive renovation and expansion funded by our community in partnership with Government of Nova Scotia.

The centre of our community is the Sackville/Bedford/Fall River area and we have provided services to people as far as Tantallon and St. Margaret’s Bay.

Over the years FUTURES has built a reputation of trust within our community as demonstrated through the satisfaction of the people we support and their care networks and by the loyalty of our many customers, patrons and donors.
