Our History
Building Futures is an Adult Service Centre Day Program within the Province of Nova Scotia Department of Community Services (DCS) – Disability Support Program (DSP). Located in Lower Sackville, Building Futures supports individuals with intellectual disabilities in the Sackville-Bedford-Fall River community since 1973.
Originally founded by parents, the primary goal was to improve the quality of life of those living with intellectual disabilities leaving the school system; officially incorporating in 1991 as Anchor Industries Society and then evolving into Building Futures Employment Society in 2012. The central focus was on providing vocational and pre-vocational training and community employment services for participants.
Additionally, recognizing a gap in services for people with more complex needs, Futures Club was created in the winter of 2000, occupying space at the Masonic Lodge in Lower Sackville. The Futures Club promotes choice and self-direction through activities which focus on personal growth and exploring the community.

Our main Building Futures location has occupied several sites throughout the community, moving to Glendale Avenue in Lower Sackville in 1982. With support from our community partners and the Government of Nova Scotia, we completed a comprehensive renovation and expansion in 2015-2016.
Today, Building Futures continues to grow and evolve in supporting our participants at both our main location on Glendale Avenue and our Futures Club satellite location.
